hey guys,

i am having troubles getting my dlink dcs-900 cam to work with zoneminder 1.21.3 running on ubuntu server 5.10. I installed with the debian package, and my current set up is as follows:

Remote Host Name: http://ip/
Remote Host Port: 80
Remote Host Path: /video.cgi
Remote Image Colours: 24 bit colour
Capture Width (pixels): 320
Capture Height (pixels) : 240
Orientation: Normal

all i am getting at the moment is a black screen when trying to view it. any ideas that could help me get this thing running would be much appreciated.

jared.

This is just a host 'name'' (or ip) and not a url and as such doesn't need a protocol specifier. So just use 'ip' instead.

the only thing i can suggest is do you know for sure that your zm bix is working, ie have you had any images ever from any type of input. I would also suggest turning reg exps on in settings but i doubt it will help as it appears a problem getting images out of your cam into zm

I don't know if it's case sensitive but my D-Link is VIDEO.CGI not /video.cgi. Having said that, the quality is so useless that you'd hardly notice the difference between an image and a black screen  D-Link cameras are really, _really_ bad!

There are a couple of people here that genuinly make me fall over with laughter from the quotes.

D-link seem bad that ever there routers are poor. I would stick em all in a box with maxtor disks oh and cyrix processors

okay guys..thanks heaps for your suggestions..

ive checked the messages log, and nothing really stands out. Ive tried entering remote host path as VIDEO.CGI, and no luck.

now im not 100% sure that this zm box is working. i havent had any images or video produced from any sort of input. in regards to your suggestion of turning on reg exps - im really new to linux, and wouldnt have the slightest idea on how to do this  sorry to be a pain guys..

its a zm config thing, basically uses a slightly different way to retrieve images from the cam.
if you go to options, under network you will find a xheckbox called use reg exp. Turn it on. Also go back to your original config, with the leading/.
Can you also load the image in firefox, right click and report all the properties show ie path, image size etc
warm regards

thanks james.

I have tried the regexps setting in zm, however i am still not having any luck at all. at the moment i am getting nothing coming up when i attempt to view the video, it just sits there aparrantly "transferring data". After a few minutes i just get a torn image icon. If i press on the stills link i just get a black screen, no image.

when viewing http://192.168.1.202/image.jpg link, i get a still shot off the camera. i go to the properties of the image, and i get the following:

Location: http://192.168.1.202/image.jpg
Width: 320px
Height: 240px
Size of File: 6.06 KB (6204 bytes)
Alternate Text: The image “http://192.168.1.202/image.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

thanks again,

jared.

Depending on your distro the significant messages might be /var/log/syslog. Basically look for anything that has ERR in it.
