FreeBSD Support

Didn't get a chance by now to test zoneminder with my Panasonic WV-NM100 network cameras, but I was just wondering, why zoneminder can not be found in the FreeBSD ports.
I would not need any specific drivers for video capture cards for my cameras, so that would not be an issue...
Are there any plans, to include FreeBSD support for this fabulous project anytime soon?
Since the release of FreeBSD 6.0, it gets pretty much attention, because it is considered to be well suited for server and desktop use, it offers quite some advantages over GNU/Linux, and has a sophisticated package system (ports) with actually more than 14.000 software packages.

I think people have used ZM with FreeBSD. Unfortunately I don't have a FreeBSD box here to test it on but anyone who has is very welcome to feed back comments on what might need to be modified to get ZM running on it.

I already search a lot, but could not find any information about a successful FreeBSD installation. The stock archive surely can not be installed without adaption, because there is no Video4Linux layer in FreeBSD. But as mentioned, I would not need any support for capture cards, because I want to use it solely with network cameras.
Unfortunately I am not experienced enough, nor do I have the time, to fiddle around with that issue by myself. It would be just fine, if a port for zoneminder would be added to the FreeBSD ports-tree.
I assume most Linux users don't have a clue about FreeBSD, but taking a deeper look an be really worth it. FreeBSD can be superior to GNU/Linux in many ways, and the ports collection already features more than 14.000 software packages (ports to be compiled from source using a sophisticated package management system). If you have a spare partition on your harddrive, you could setup the FreeBSD base system in less than 20 minutes, just to check out, what would have to be done to make zoneminder run.

Hi.
AFAIK, there is no good way to have all of the ZM capabilities on FreeBSD (a very incomplete FFMPEG port support). The basic configuration might run well, but it will probably require a lot of fiddling around.
I would simply suggest giving a try to the latest Fedora Core. I was an avid FreeBSD user once, and this distro has essentially converted me to the Linux world

I know, that's why I think, I'll have to stick with Gentoo Linux on that machine. Nevertheless a zoneminder FreeBSD port would be wonderful, FreeBSD is gaining market potential quickly nowadays, and I have to admit, that I also would like to try the swap, if it wasn't about some particular pieces of software not available in the FreeBSD world...

I also thinkk that Ubuntu is an upcoming Linux that may prove worthy of a version that runs on it also. Just my 2cents worth.

tnlc, this is completely unrelated. FreeBSD is not a Linux distribution. It should be absolutely no problem, to run zoneminder in Ubunu Linux.
