Success and a Big Thank You

Just dropped in to say thank you for a great piece of software

Got Zoneminder running on 2 machines, one amd64 with dual opterons, the other x86 using intel P4

Operating system on both machines is Gentoo

The reason I do 2 installs is because the x86 machine is a mail and DNS server so I can't afford to take it off line, so I iron all the kinks out first on my latest toy, yes I know dual opterons are big boys toys, then install on the server once everything works ok

Did'nt use the Gentoo ebuild, heard bad things so I used the ZoneMinder-1.22.0.tar.gz file instead

Took me a while but got everything working fine including run states via cron

Cam is a Axis 206 only problem I have is resolution, can't get 640x480 working but that's for another day unless one of you guys can point me in the right direction

Time now to add some more cams

Once again Thanks for all your hard work and also for this forum, could'nt have done it without you

Pete

Yeah, the latest main-line ebuild is giving me conflict problems with my custom one too. Ebuild/emerge is a handy tool until things start conflicting... :/

I would think this is a shared mem issue but you will need to look at the logs first, it could also be your url or cam setup, but i use 206's in high res fine. I even have a few 206m's running at 1280x1024 but you might ned your dual amd64's there lol

I had problems getting cameras to work in 640x480 initially as well. Do a search for shmall or shmmax and you should find the answer, assuming that it's due to the same problem.

Ruler, jameswilson

Code: Select all

# echo 134217728 >/proc/sys/kernel/shmall
# echo 134217728 >/proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
Did the trick, will edit /etc/sysctl.conf to make the changes permanent

Only have 8GB ram for the Opteron's hope they can spare it lol

Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Pete
