system stopped recording out of the blue

Hi, everyone,

I'm running zoneminder 1.21.3 and 3 days ago all the cameras had stopped recording events. They were still on the "Modect" Function. One thing that seemed "different" (or maybe not because I never noticed it before) was that the Sources were all in red colour. What do these colours mean, anyway.

So, can someone help me figure out what happened? I checked for logs in /tmp/ but there was like 4 lines, that's it. Is there a feature that logs individual users' activities?

Thanks,
-Haxhia

The red indicates that the capture daemons have vanished, so nothing's capturing images from the cameras. Time to stop and re-start zm, I expect. Then look through your logs to find out what went wrong.

I restared zm and now it's capturing.

However, I don't know where to find these logs. ZM_PATH_LOGS says "/tmp" but when I look in /tmp/ I saw one file that had like 4 lines or so..basically not telling us much.

Try looking in /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog (or wherever your distribution puts its logs). That's where you're most likey to find the evidence.

The 1.22.0 README has a whole section on logging if you need more information.
