Axis 206w/207w - can't see live image in ZM - FIXED!

I fixed my problem. It turns out to have been the way I set up the TCP/IP config on the AXIS camera. Under the wireless settings I had told it to point to the wireless router, which is really more of an access point. I fixed that by pointing it to the main network router instead and I can now view the camera through ZM.

I'm not sure of the best way to edit/fix my post, but I will leave my original post here, below.

Thanks for a great application!

Hey:

I have successfully set up a ZoneMinder server running 2 Axis 206w wireless cameras. It works great - I really like ZM. This server was set up by installing the LiveCD (it runs ZM version 1.21.3).

I'm now trying to set up a 2nd server in another location, again from the LiveCD. The install has gone okay, but I'm having trouble adding cameras. I was unable to get 206w's - they've been discontinued. The 207w looked to be a 'new & improved' version, so I got a couple of those. I have the cameras set up on a network and I can see images in the Axis interface, but I am unable to add them to ZM.

I am using essentially the same configuration as I used in the first server. I think my problem is with the 'Remote Host Path' setting in the 'Source' tab of the montior configuration window. I've tried setting the path to '/mjpg/video.mjpg' as it is on the other server, and I've also tried '/axis-cgi/mjpg/video.cgi?resolution=320x240'. Neither has worked.

I've also tried sending a smaller image and fewer frames per second. That hasn't helped either. Is there some difference between the 2 models (206w/207w) that could be the problem?

One thing I noticed is the permissions on the video.mjpg file in the 2 models differ. In the 207w, the file has '-r-x------' (500), where the 206w has '-rw-r--r--' (644). You can see this by ftp'ing into the camera. I tried to set the permissions in the 207w to match the 206w, but I get '550 Unknown error.' (ftp command: 'chmod 644 video.mjpg').

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

...And a further piece of advice (that I often forget!).

When you are tweaking the settings for a monitor and you lose the image, it often helps to restart ZM. The easiest way is to click on the word 'Running' (or 'stopped', if it isn't running). Select 'restart' in the little drop down menu of the window that opens.

Hi

Can't give as much info as I'd hoped as one of my remote servers is down this morning and I can't login to the zm machine to check, but from memory the 207w uses the same naming convention as the other Axis ip cams I've used.

My 207w certainly does work with ZM (as well as ZM's duties it's also feeding a public webcam on a busy site). The URL I used was the same as the others - take directly from the Camera's setup page html editor (build a url), Obviously mjpeg rather than quicktime for zm.

Some gotchas with this camera: Audio has a lot of interference. Axis have passed this onto the techs and I hope for a firmware fix. Also the camera dies after a couple of days uptime. Another on this site has said there's a memory leak and a beta firmware fixes this, but I've been unable to track this down. Axis have been keeping me waiting for the audio fix for three weeks so far. :/

It's actually a nice cam, but some teething troubles you wouldn't have expected from such an experienced company.
