I could start zm, but then I reconfigured it and reinstalled it, and now when I try to start zm I get the following:

/usr/local/bin/zmfix: error while loading shared libraries: libavutil.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

libavutil.so does exist, it is in /usr/local/lib

How can I fix this?

Check your ldconfig setup has /usr/local/lib in the path and rerun ldconfig if necessary. It is possible the linker is not picking it up.
