Hi, I have upgraded my IP-Cop box from being the router to now having the responsibility of being the home security machine too. This came about after returning from holidays (2 days ago) and finding that we had been robbed (3 laptops, xbox 10 games, DVD's, Jewellery, etc). Anyway, sorry if this sounds urgent, but it is
I had tried in vane to configure 3 usb webcams on this box with no success. 1x Logitech QuickCam IM, 1x IBM ultraport Webcam, and 1x Volcano webcam. None show up in xawtv, but v4l-info and lsusb show the devices hapily. I am using the livecd (installed) version 1.21.3.
I gave up on the USB connection directly connected to the box, instead opting to use Dcam (which was already installed and running on 2 winxp pc's). Now, you can open a browser window on the zm box and see the stream coming from 192.168.1.5. If u right click on the file and select properties, you can see the image is 320x240 res, and you get "http://192.168.1.193/images/DCAMImage.j ... 9162864718"
OK. If you just pop in the browser "http://192.168.1.193/images/DCAMImage.jpg" you will see the image only, without the crappy webpage, with the javascript 'refresher'. You can manually reload the page and the image changes.
In zm, i set the name to "Lounge" (location) and hit the 'record' , 'remote' dropdown. I left all other settings alone. In the source section, I put "192.168.1.5" in the hostname, "/images/DCAMImage.jpg" in path, 24bit colour, 320x240 res.
No images....what the? I have tried changing ports on the dcam server box, putting the port in the zm source section. I'm confused....
I have enabled SSH access from the outside world to my zm box, and once in the tunnel, can access webmin and zm page, as I'll be catching a plane tomorrow morning and won't be back for a week, yet i want to be able to get this running shortly after i arrive at work. I have pointed my webcams in the directions i want recorded, and everything looks good in the DCam setup, but i have also enabled VNC to them (tested and works)
HELP! I don't wanna be totally looted when i return (Mind u i did install an alarm system too, so hopefully it may scare off the maggots.) and i cannot afford to upgrade to IP cameras as yet.....I used IP cameras at my last workplace and they work a treat!
Thanks in advance.

Sorry,
I have 2 machines capturing the feeds, 192.168.1.5 = Loungeroom, 192.168.1.193 = Office. I have tried using only one, the other, and both at the same times.
I dropped the feed time of dcam from 1 second to 3 seconds. I thought that maybe it was overwriting the image before zm had a chance to get it. I have logged into the machine from work, so the tunnel is working fine, and i can see my vnc controlled machines too, just in case i need to change/install something else.
I decided to check using wget....
[troy@zm tmp]$ wget 192.168.1.5/images/DCAMImage.jpg
--10:07:49-- http://192.168.1.5/images/DCAMImage.jpg
=> `DCAMImage.jpg'
Connecting to 192.168.1.5:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response...
10:07:49 ERROR -1: Malformed status line.
Ok...it appears that the images are wierd....
I'm currently installing and playing with Apache server on one of the DCam winxp boxes, and will try see if that is better than the "PWS" Person web server that DCam uses.
Thanks for the reply.

Installed Apache 2.0.58 win32. Local save the images from DCam to apache's location. From the zm box i can now download the images using wget. Sweet!
[troy@zm tmp]$ wget 192.168.1.193/DCAMImage.jpg
--10:34:58-- http://192.168.1.193/DCAMImage.jpg
=> `DCAMImage.jpg'
Connecting to 192.168.1.193:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 8,506 [image/jpeg]
100%[====================================>] 8,506 --.--K/s
10:34:58 (574.34 KB/s) - `DCAMImage.jpg' saved [8,506/8,506]
I can open a browser window and type the image url into the browser "http://192.168.1.193/DcamImage.jpg" and the image appears. Reloading the page changes the pic, so DCam and Apache now appear to be doing their job.
But.... poor ole zoneminder cant show me the images still? The links are green for recording. I have restarted zm using the link "Running" and still no joy. Should I change some options in zm? Maybe I should try and reboot the whole machine ...... i don't like doing that remotely, incase of, well, something not working during startup and not being able to access my tunnel for the entire week.

I'm about to check shorewall in case it is somehow stopping things. I'll keep posted, for future info.
Can i help further with more logs?

SUCCESS!!! I'm an idiot
Turns out, i needed to put the trailing / before the image location. I just assumed because it was in the apache root, that it wouldn't need it.....
Ok, so to all you ppl who have a mixed environment network and dont have the patience to install webcams on linux (like me), then you can use DCam (sourceforge) with Apache win32. Then have zm fetch the image from the remote winxp machine.
Sweet. I'm off to setup the Lounge PC's apache server now , or maybe I'll just copy to the Office's apache folder.....we'll see
Thanks for being my sounding board.
