Just a good card

Post by yoerz »

hey guys,

I need to buy a standard video capture card to recieve input from up to 6 cameras, record, compress, motion detect, all that crap.. you know..
(it probably has more to do with the program but still...)

I need it to be 100% Compatable with Linux SUSE, and Zoneminder.

Oh, and also be cheap!

Any cards based on the bt8x8 chipsets are fully compatible with Linux. Conexant makes a successor to the bt878 that can be found on many newer cards. It's called the cx2388x.

I've found a couple of eBay auctions which I'm pretty sure
$77US http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0001101370
$110US http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 9744864490
$100US http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 9745073850

For when the above links die, I'll describe them: They are PCI boards with 4 distinct large chips on the board, and you can vaguely make out the Conexant logo and name.

These cards should work, with the exception of the last one. I can't see anything on the chips, so I don't know what's the deal with that one. I haven't purchased one of these, but one is on my list. They ship from Hong Kong, so that's a bit scary, but the sellers have good feedback.

Here is a picture of what you should look for:
