ZM Email Notifications

I'd really like to set up our new ZM server at work so it can be accessed from home. We are using Comcast Cable and have a commercial account, but I don't know if we have outgoing server capability.

I also use ZM at home and have Charter which I know doesn't allow servers.

Any idea what needs to be done to get the email feature of ZM working for me at work (and home if it can be done)?

I think all I have to do is somehow set up both ZM machines to be able to send emails in the first place. Is there some way I can use my Gmail account for this?

Being able to access ZM completely and view in real time would be even better, but I'm not sure it can be done over cable internet, can it?

Yes you can set up and view a server as long as you have a public IP. Depending on your setup your router should have a port (something like 8080) forwarded to your ZM server. You have to adjust the apache config to listen for port 8080 insted of the default port 80 (or you can just use port 80 and forward 80 from the router).
As far as email goes, as long as you have all the proper perl modules installed and sendmail, you should be set to go. There is no need for your gmail.

Cheers,
Corey

I've heard of Sendmail, but I've never set it up. Are there tutorials on the net for setting it up? And I assume the modules for ZM are on the system somewhere since it was installed from the livecd?

your only going to want to mess with sendmail if you want to setup your own mail server. You will already have (hopefully) access to a proper mail server. You would be better sending messages through this
