I need to buy a card that will support up to 8 cameras (some infra red)
that works 100% with ZoneMinder

There use to be a compatibility list on the site but I can't find it anymore!

What are the companies that make cards for ZoneMinder?
And Where can I find a cheap one?

How about this one?

BlueCherry PV-149 - 8 port video capture card (120FPS)

If 8 cameras are connected simultaniously, what frame rate will I get on each camera?

wow, how come it gets cut down to a 1/3 ?
should it not be 15 FPS ?
i was thinking of getting this card, but i would want 15FPS at full res.
what card would i need to get to achieve this ?

cheers

There is some "slop" in changing channels. However, I have seen 7-10 fps frame rates on chips split into 2 feeds. It will depend on total system load... And it is frequently 7 rather than 10. :)

PV-183

I'm new to this as well but here is how I understand it:

The PV-149 comes with 4 bt878(a?) chips. Each chip is capable of (NTSC) 30fps @ 640x480, but if you have more than 4 feeds you're gonna quickly meet the law of diminishing returns on at least on of those chips.

4chips * 30fps = 120 total fps (640x480)

The PV-183 cines with 8 bt848(a?) chips. Each chips is capable of (NTSC) 30fps @ 320x240, but while this will handle 8 feeds at 15fps (that's actually what I'm doing) , I've heard it can't do 640x480 for sustained periods. Before I heard that, I did try to put it into 640x480 and it worked, but some of my feeds would get stuck (stop streaming). Not sure who's fault it was.

8chips * 30fps = 240 total fps (320x240)

So you could get 8 feeds at up to 30fps using that card, but only at 320x240.

If you're like me you are like me, you're wondering if there is any way to get it to do 640x480 for sustained periods.

I also wonder if there are and 8 chip bt878 cards available.
