confirm local viewing is doesn't work?

Post by eddyhkim »

I used a headless test system to evaluate zoneminder, and after I got it working I was happy. I replaced a geoview system with zoneminder, also a headless server and again it worked. I was able to view live feeds and montages.

I replaced two more geovieew systems and these are not headless systems, and I discovered that I cannot view the live streams on the local machine (direct, cycle, montage), but remote viewing is just fine. While the live streams don't show on the local desktop, viewing past events work fine.

Is this a normal occurance or do I have something funky with my systems?

ubuntu 6.06 2.6-15
1G memory
2Ghz celeron
kernel.shmmax = 84217728
firefox 1.5

Truly you don't want to monitor or view on the local system. The overhead of fire-fox is usually to much.

So I'm guessing that some people are able to view locally and it should be do-able on a sufficiently powerful and properly setup system.

But some people aren't, thus the work on local viewers that pull data straight out of shared memory.

thanks.

to answer your question, yes, I view all the time on my server.

I do it primarily when I am setting up new cameras.

When I am away from the server I a keep Firefox off and the main console logged out to reduce overhead.
