Alarm sound problems...

Hello, I have previously posted this in the ZoneMinder specific forum, but as it's not actually a ZoneMinder problem as such, I'm redoing it here...

I have ZoneMinder running with 4 cameras, all working well.

However, on a certain laptop we use for monitoring, the audio alert for alarms is not working (the alarms are displayed as per normal). On every other machine it is OK, just this one causing the problems. All the machines are completely up to date and running Windows XP Professional with the latest versions of everything.

In IE, 'press spacebar or press enter....' flashes when the alarm should be sounding, but neither actions do any good. There is no message in FireFox, just no sound.

I know this is a Windows security problem, related to an ActiveX update I believe, but can anyone help resolving it? I have tried running the patch that is meant to fix it but with no joy.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cheers,
Phil.

Sorry mate i read your other post but have no idea. I assume you have tried putting your zm site in the trusted zone

Most likely no one has responded because there is not enough information given to find/give a solution. Also is usualy considered as rude to double post.
This problem could be on either end and/or user error in configuration.
Are you sure you installed the sound file properly (location and permission's) and configured zm (two settings involved) correctly?
What did you do to install the wav file and how did you configure zm?
What if any errors show in any of your logs pertaining to this issue?
See the README or the Wiki FAQ for help trouble shooting.

Corey

My apologies for double post - I only though afterwards that I had used the wrong forum, twice!

It is definitely a security issue in Windows as described here....

However, I have taken all the suggested steps to resolution and am at a loss as to why it is only effecting one machine, when all the others have the same level of updates.

The sound played is just the default from the server, as set in the ZoneMinder options.

It is very strange, I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this.

Cheers,
Phil.

Okay so your using an rpm. I have not incountered any problems with the sound files to date so this is a new issue to me. Is this the new IE 7.0 your using?

Hello,

It started whilst using IE6 SP2 but was OK on my other PC (at the time using IE7 Beta 2). I then installed IE7 on the offender - working on the basis that if it worked on one it'd work on the other - but it still only works on the one PC.

There was a patch I found from Microsoft to be run on IE6 (before upgrading) but, when running it, it said I was already on IE7 (which I definitely wasn't).

Having had plenty of years experience with Windows, Windows Update and new versions of IE, I'm guessing that something's cocked up in IE during an unidentified (and seemingly untrackable) update.

If anyone else does come across this, then let me know how you get on!

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Phil.

If as you say its a security thing putting the zm address in the trusted zone (assuming your trusted zone is set as low s poss) should solve it. But i personally have not used ie7 yet

I've tried with no security in IE at all, although the server is being accessed on the intranet rather than internet, so security levels were low anyway.
With the security set to nothing, all controls SHOULD run without prompting, but it's still not working. Using another laptop exactly the same, with the same OEM Windows installation and apparently the same updates performed, everything is fine, so I can only put it down to a cocked up Windows update. The computer at fault isn't really used for a lot else, so I'll hit it with the recovery disk and start afresh.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Phil.
