I am trying to develope a video surveillance system for a convenience store and I am planning to use ZineMinder. Is it possible to boot from CD and not install on HD except storing video streams? If yes, can some one give me detailed instructions or pint to some more reading?

At the moment it is not possible to run from the liveCD and Record to a hard drive. The LiveCD must be installed to save any recordings.

Corey

Hi Corey,
Actually this can be done by using the "changes=/dev/..." bootcode. This way config changes and recorded events will be saved to the hard drive. Unfortunately this feature is only mentioned in the README.Bootcodes file on the CD and not otherwise documented. I have tested it with a ext3 formatted partition, but not extensively, so I dont know for example whether the PurgeWhenFull filter will work or not. There are a few other minor bugs in the web interface when running from the CD so only experimenting will tell if this will serve your purpose yoog. I would expect that performance would be significantly reduced compared to a real installation.
