MISSING ACTIVITY!

Not sure why, but I've been noticing many many multiple events are missing, e.g. Walkers, Bicyclers and some cars.

Any explanations or fixes are welcomed..

Just running as a service, not montioring.

Thanks..

hi,
you can start trouble shooting by reading the log files. Zoneminder log file usually stored in /tmp/zm*.log and also check /var/log/messages.

Missing Events..

To be more explanatory, the events recorded for some reason are not including every activity in front or in view of the AXIS Camera. I'm not sure a log file will tell me much.

I think the camera is NOT getting triggered by ALL Motion when set to MotionCord.

It captures most but not all and again, I've noticed it doesn't pick up walkers or bicyclers at all.

I will look at the log files for errors, but I don't think thats where the symptoms will show on a hunch.

If using modect, play with your Zones. Adjust sensitivity etc.

One thing I've noticed which *always* causes lost frames, intermittent detection and generally poor reliability is: Overloaded server.

The Load indicator is a starter guide, also use "uptime" - but if you want a more accurate guide to what the CPU's are doing, run htop - it's a version of 'top' but with pretty cpu graphs. It's also multi-processor aware so on my quad xeon I get four little graphs all doing their thing.

If load is > 1.0 per CPU, I get dropped frames every time. Recorded images (using mjpeg or jpg fetch) become jittery, with variable fps. People walking across the view jump from one place to another, or just disappear.

So... Reduce zones, use b&w, play with detail and shrink image size if you're loading yer server up. Or split the cams onto another server.

I agree i think this is a sensitiity issue

Thanks, I'll try that..

The CPU Load Indicator says 0.1 - 0.3, isn't that under 1% load?

The CPU is a AMD P4 Mobile Athlon with 2GB Ram. I will try to make some adjustments per your post but didn't want to sacrafice color. Perhaps the USB Camera is causing problems, it doesn't consistently capture images, it stopped working as well as the AXIS Cameras. They are way more consistent.

I'll take the USB Camera out of the mix and restart the service, test, and make adjustments.

If your outside for a while the AXIS will capture images, but if someone were to just walk by it won't capture an image. If you stand outside for a while and move around it will capture the image. I will look at the camera paremeters more closely to see if I'm missing anything.

load is a measure of qued items not a % mate
