SUSE10.1 locks up / freezes

In the "Hints & Tips" list, dgsconseil very kindly provided a howto for ZoneMinder on SUSE10.0.

I have now installed ZoneMinder-1.22.2 on two different SUSE10.1 systems by following that post.

Unfortunately, for both systems, after ZoneMinder has been running a locally connected monitor for a period of time, the system locks up. Cannot even login remotely. And nothing pertinent left in the logs. It is necessary to cycle the power switch.

As I say, both systems are behaving in similar fashion. But, running the camera, (Logitech Communicator STX using spca5xx driver) via xawtv - no problem.

Any suggestions on troubleshooting? What data would be useful?

Replying to my own post ...
I removed the following lines in /etc/sysctl.conf
kernel.shmall = 134217728
kernel.shmmax = 134217728
and the problem of system freezing has gone away. All is now normal while a ZoneMinder monitor is running.
