Hey everyone, been trying to get ZM going on a ubuntu box for a while and have done TONS of forum reading, and I have it totally running fine now, however I just have one problem and one seperate question.
It seems that in device manager my BT878 card from bluecherry.net (pv-149card) has been detected just fine and seems? to be running. Zoneminder itself is totally setup, however when I add a camera, all i get is a blue screen? What does this mean? Do I have to modify some hardware setting? Below are my screenshots of what's going on, any help is totally appreciated and once I get this, my first ZM box up and running, I'll be sure to make a very generous donation to show my gratitude =)

I know I'm almost there, everything else in ZM seems to run fine, so all input is REALLY appreciated.
If anyone can point me to also somewhere on the forums/wiki where I can find comparions to recording images/vs video and what types of video to record at for the best quality and longest duration of time!


My other small questions were could anyone point me to where on the forum is an explanation to have ZM run on startup, and....where can I edit the directory to where any form of capture(image, video) is stored, so that I can have it on a 300 gig hard disk instead of my puny 15 gig distro hard disk, much thanks in advance!

If this works out, I will be putting up a handy ubuntu guide myself and some documentation of a zoneminder in a car project for portability of theft recovery or accident documentation

i dont know on ubuntu but if the card isnt autodetected (your logs will tell you) then you need to force it to use the correct card type. In mandriva or fedora you edit modprobe.conf. Appartly ubuntu doesnt have a modprobe conf file so i dont know how you would.
Regarding your drive there is a post very recently about apache conf file edditing that corey made that should help

A blue sceen with color setting usualy means that you have an input on the card that has no video (hens no errors since the card is working).
Try one of the two following:

Simplest is to change the ports the camera is pluged into on the back of the card.
Change the chanel for the card [ 0 thru 3 ] there are four inputs.

From the screenshots it appears you have the device setup incorrectly. The path shoud be /dev/video0 for camera 1 and so on. (The screenshot appeared to be /dev/video)

If you do need to edit modprobe there is a modprobe directory in /etc instead of a modprobe.conf file.

One of the files inside this is called options or defaults or something like that, and you can put your arguments for bttv in there. I copied the line from my suse install's modprobe.conf and it worked fine.

This card is automagically configured by BTTV, you do not have to setup anything different with modprobe.

Yeah don't mess with the modprobe or anything like that. Your card is working you just need to configure ZM correctly or put the camera on the port you have configured.

try using varius /dev/video0(0) and similar ...if you have blue screen you've almost done..
