it would be nice if we could run any of the modules (within reason) on multiple boxes and have a seperate box for a front end.

EG: Box 1: SQL Server
BOX 2: ZMC for IP cameras 1, 2, 3, along with ZMA and ZMF and ZMS
BOX 3: same as box 2
BOX 4: Apache (front end)

alternate configuration is possibly modifying the daemons to execute in a cluster environment..

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

You can probably do this pretty much now if you have one box hosting the db and/or the event filesystem and all the others connecting over the network. Whether the penalties for network access outweigh the advantages of splitting the functions is another question however.
