A hello-how-are-ya post. I work with a company that sells DVR service (among other things) and DVR is the last non-FOSS product we have. I am active in both m0n0wall, and Ubuntu projects, and actually heard about this from someone on the m0n0wall list. I would Love to dump the last Windows dependent app. I am liking what I see so far, but configuration is far from simple. "Why does it work in the live CD but not on my system?!!"

If anyone knows a way to get GV-800 support, I have money. (serious offer... Not a lot of money, but money) Right now it only works with one of the cards we have in stock. I have a pile of Chinese GV-800s looking for a home.

We have no problem helping out but shooting in the dark is a whole other thing.

This is just a 'Hi, how are ya" post. I have not done enough to get to the "intelligent question" point yet. The GV-800 was just a shot in the dark for anyone with experience with them. I can read from them, but not init. That means if I boot Windows and init the card, then warm boot to Linux, it will capture. A cold boot to linux is a blue screen. Google sees this as a common problem with no solution... The rest is coming along, but it is a steep learning curve. I may take you up on the ssh offer, but I am not dead yet!

A blue sceen is usualy a good sign. I believe I have done work with that card in someone elses machine in the past, but I'll double check and make sure (assuming I can find the notes ). If you have an extra I could purchase just let me know and I can work on the settings but working on your test system is fine as well so either way you have some options. Just let me know how you would like to procede

I assume the GV cards are Geovision, is that correct? I would love to be able to support them but there does not appear to be any kind of documentation out there about how to interface with them, though I understand they are bttv based at the core.

GV-800 is Geovision. They are bt878 cards, but the init is different for all cards. If I run the MS Windows app to init the card, and warm boot to Linux, it will capture. Cold boot is all blue screen. I have some spare hardware, so if someone is willing, I can loanit out. So, Cordel, do you like a challenge? (No new info since I have been to busy to touch it today)

I have a GV-800 D with pigtails. Can you give me more info on the VIA and ATI issues? This could be our biggest problem!
