Sorry for my english ( i speak french) if you don't understand what i want to say. First, i'm a beginner with Zone Minder and with Linux.
I want to do an installation of video surveillance with a second hand notebook
I will have an IBM ThinkPad T20, and i don't know yet which camera.
But the first thing i want to understand is : my future camara will be installed at the basement ( séjour ) of my house, and my PC will be at the first floor.
So i will buy an network camera ( RJ45) which i will plug to PC. But between
camera and PC do i need a special hardware box ( like a DVR Digital Video Recorder or acquisition video card) or this conversion will be made by Zone Minder ?
Thank for your future answer.
Best regards.
Pierre
You don't need anything if you use an IP-camera or an USB webcam. (USB cable maximum 5 meters!). ZM does it all.

Thank you ROBI, but you did not answer to my question.
I didn't find any subminiature IP camera ( i want to hide it ) so i shall use probably CAMNB12 or similar.
So I reiterate my question, is it correct to do as mentionned in my last message ?
Thank a lot.
Pierre

PS : where can i find a subminiature IP camera ?

I have never seen a sub-mini (hidden) IP based cam. You may want to look at a supported USB or PCMCIA single port capture card for that.

You can use a video server but it should support mjpeg streaming. Mpeg is not a supported capture medium by ZM. Axis makes a video server that works well with ZM.
