Ubuntu 6.10 install, followed wiki guide

Hi,
I followed the wiki guide for my install and for the most part, it is working well.
Everything appears to be working except when i try to access a camera on the local machine, i get no video. I have tried http://localhost as well as http://192.168.1.15 (IP address of the machine). Firefox opens fine, zm works, too, but when i click on the camera the window pops up, but I never see a video.
I have tried it with the gnome desktop and the xfce manager. I get the same results.
Strangely enough, when i access the web pages from another computer, everything works ok.
It is not the browser (Firefox) because when I look at another zm machine the browser displays the video then.
Basically my box only works as a headless machine. I have no idea what to look for to troubleshoot. Maybe a permission problem on the local host?
Your advice is appreciated.
