I wanted new firmware for my Gadspot GS1600 so went to the Gadspot website to look for it. I had some trouble finding the image - the link when I found it had been commented out in the html.
So I sent them an email to query whether this was the right file.
Hi
Would like to download latest firmware for a GS1600. Your website not clear on how to find this (poor layout - no "Support" or "downloads" section on homepage and a main search resulted in no hits. Eventually found the download page by searching the FAQ, however the link on your website isn't a link:
http://www.gadspot.com/information.php?info_id=11
Firmware 2/16/06
Source shows it's commented out:
<td width="75%">Firmware 2/16/06</td>
<td><!--<a href="
http://www.gadspot.com/images/20060216-Gad-C010.rar">-->
<b>Download</b></td>
Is there a reason we shouldn't be using this?
Additionally; whilst searching for this image, I tried ascending from another firmware link to
http://www.gadspot.com/images/ which resulted in an error page. Not a big problem but doesn't look very professional.

I got a fairly prompt reply within a few hours
HI,
We are shock the you are bad mouthing us, If you log into
www.gadspot.com, scroll down the page on the left hand side you will find the download section. Please don't make un necessary comments like that. You don't even have to go into the FAQ, to look for the download section. If you're un able to find it by not looking and
being a pain in the butt! you don't have the right to blame us.
Atten: You must do a factory restore on the camera first, before doing a firmware change. You must do the change locally, If this process aren't done right it will damage the camera.
Best regards,
Rufus

Dang, I'd definately elevate that request to his supervisor. That's not an acceptable answer to a customer. Hell, it's not even correct.
The "Download" for "Firmware 2/16/06" isn't a link, not even after you pointed it out to them.

I forwarded it to all the addresses on their contacts page with a brief note of complaint, to let them know how their company was being represented, but no reply from any of them.
Could be the tech was filtering mail, I can't be bothered trying to contact them any other way. Maybe one of them will stumble across the letter here.

Second resend of my reply, and got a response - again from Rufus.
Seems he is the entire technical, info and sales support of Gadspot. Ho hum...
Hi,
Is it ok for you to say this to us (poor layout - no "Support" or "downloads" section on homepage and a main.page. We do give people are support the best you can. It's your choice that you don't want to order from us again. We were not the one to bad mouth you in the first place saying that we here at gadspot have poor support. People like you that don't look carefully or that don't read the fine line and want to be spoon feed with all the answer. So we refuse the right to server you. For being mean.
Best regards,
Rufus

As an aside, I'd like to point out that the uk supplier - which used to be gadspot.co.uk has now ceased association with gadspot.com and is known as gadget-spot.co.uk
I've no grief with gadget-spot.co.uk at all and they've been very helpful throughout. They supply the same cameras without any contact with gadspot.com at all.

Interesting that the complaints box is a gmail.com address instead of their website. Also this person didn't bother to leave their name attached to this posting.

Funny how this is the first attempt at contact I get that isn't insulting, and only two days after this story hit the news -
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/06/13 ... l_support/
(The comments on that are quite interesting).
Personal feelings aside, it looks like many other people have lost all faith with Gadspot.com and frankly I'd be surprised if it's still trading this time next year.
That's not a reflection on the cameras (although I see from elsewhere on this forum that the newer ones may only do mpeg and thus not work with zoneminder - but I don't know for sure), gadget-spot.co.uk (Now unaffiliated with gadspot.com, and have always been very polite and helpful) also carry the same cameras.
I won't be emailing some random gmail address with complaints, I tried the official channels and just got more abuse. gscomplaints could easily be some unrelated person wanting some dirt or just timewasting.

If you feel safer emailing to a Gadspot.com email, here it is:
complaints@gadspot.com
No names are attached to this posting because the Complaints department is representing.
We are already taking care of the situation with Rufus. If you have any other complaints, please feel free to direct them to
complaints@gadspot.com and we will try to resolve the problem to the best we can. We apologize for any inconveniences caused.

Ahh, it looks like a little negative publicity and people start talking nicely

I am just thinking of that Scene in "A Fish Called Wanda" where John Cleese is nude in front of an entire family trying to be British.

I left a review of Gadspot here. Can't hurt, maybe it'll save someone else from having a Really Bad Order Experience (tm)

that is just not right!!!
excellent support is one of the main reasons why we stick with a product or service.
if you can't have it with them, look somewhere else. they don't deserve anything.
