No video displayed, only a placeholder

Post by clwhitt »

I am unable to get any video to display with ZoneMinder. All I get is a placeholder image after clicking on the name link. The status bar shows that it is refreshing, so it appears there is some sort of communication going on.

I have Bt878 cards (2 with 4 inputs each). I can get the video to display from one of the cards with XAWTV, so I know at least that one works (video0).

The device names are /dev/video0 and /dev/video1, which is what I have set in the properties. I've tried all the channels to no avail. The format is set to NTSC, palette to RGB24 and size at 300x250 with Normal orientation. The distro is Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

Being relatively new to linux (though an old computer geek), I could use a little prodding to get me headed in the right direction to solve this problem.

Thanks.

Try using 320x240 for the width and the height. Also does sources show up as red, orange, or green?

I am having the same problem if I have authentication turned on. It displays fine with authentication turned off. (Even with the admin account) Are you using authentication? If so, does it "get better" with it off?

I tried readjusting to the video dimensions to 320x240, but no change. The source shows up as red. If I change the options to use mpeg video streams (rather than default jpeg), I get a black window instead of the placeholder. I also tried installing cambozola, but it made no difference either.

Lee, I just turned on authentication to try that, now I can't login with any of my linux accounts. Oops! Now what?

Thanks boycho, admin/admin did it and let me in. Still no video yet, but at least I'm in. :-)

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.3. I've read somewhere that some people have had trouble with Firefox. Any truth to that? What would be the option?

Have you used the xlib_raw program? After installing all the requisite development tools to complete "make" without errors, I'm unable to do a "make install". I get a "No rule to make target 'install'." error . I'm still investigating it though.

Other issues are that when I try to run 'zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v' or 'zmfix -a', I get an 'Aborted (core dumped)' message.
