Camera capturing but no pictures...

I'm running zoneminder 1.22.3 on Debian 2.6.16.35
I can see pictures with xawtv, but just a placeholder when I log in and check the camrea feed.
With zoneminder up and running (but not xawtv), I can see from tail /var/log/messages:
Jun 16 22:24:20 localhost zmc_dvideo0[32318]: INF [Cam_1: 43000 - Capturing at 29.41 fps]
Jun 16 22:24:53 localhost zmc_dvideo0[32318]: INF [Cam_1: 44000 - Capturing at 30.30 fps]
Jun 16 22:25:26 localhost zmc_dvideo0[32318]: INF [Cam_1: 45000 - Capturing at 30.30 fps]
Jun 16 22:26:00 localhost zmc_dvideo0[32318]: INF [Cam_1: 46000 - Capturing at 29.41 fps]
Jun 16 22:26:33 localhost zmc_dvideo0[32318]: INF [Cam_1: 47000 - Capturing at 30.30 fps]
Jun 16 22:27:07 localhost zmc_dvideo0[32318]: INF [Cam_1: 48000 - Capturing at 29.41 fps]

So i'm capturing! Great!
But the frame rate when I watch the camera in my browser remains at 0, and I just get a placeholder.
I have tried getting info by running zmu -d /dev/video0 -v -q but it just gives the reply 'Aborted'. Same with zmfix -a why??

dmesg says:
bttv: driver version 0.9.16 loaded

It doesn't seem to make any difference if i use mpeg or jpeg...

How do I troubleshoot from here?

Since zm is capturing images, it's working. Check your apache logs to see why zms is not streaming since it is run by apache.

Ok, having explored apache2 logs, I get the following error over & over:

It's the same whether I use zms or nph-zms

Any thoughts??

id be concerned about the autodetect fail, ie id force the correct driver just in case. What card you using

It's a generic DVR card I bought on ebay! It works fine with xawtv, and as zoneminder says it's capturing, I'm assuming its producing images ok.
When you say 'force the driver' which one(s) might have died to give the apache error?

Cheers,

Barneyward

if it works in xaw then is fine. If its a jpg error then im assuming its a build issue. What distro are you on (you may have mentioned)

I'm using Debian 2.6.16.35 and zoneminder 1.22.3 - the version which is packaged as a Debian download.

Problems solved by uninstalling Debian rpm and compiling source code instead. I'll post the problem on the Debian build website in case it helps.

Hi,

I have the same issue. ZM is capturing from camera and I can see pictures (files) but I can't see anything online. When I hit the name of monitor I get only informations about FPS (for example 10fps) and white space where should be image from the camera.
Could somebody tell me why it's happening. How can I fix this?

I use A4Tech USB Cam (ZC0301[P] Image Processor and Control Chip detected (vid/pid 0x0AC8:0x303B)), ZM 1.23.3 from sources, Slackware 12.0 distro, kernel 2.6.23, Core 2 Duo and ATI graphics with 3D support (working), Apache 2.2.4.

I can see image while using xawtv. I can browse pictures captured pictures (events) in events folder. I can set filters (I can see still image while setting filters). I can not see online view from the cam.

Do I need

Every file and folder is owned by apache:apache and has -rwxr-xr-x attributes.

If I forgot to mention about sth, please let me know.

Please help me set up zoneminder - I realy need this software.
Thank you in advance.

Try using nph-zms instead of zms.
Setting is under options/paths

Thank you for quick reply.

I forgot to mention that almost the same situation is with nph-zms and zms.

The only change I've noticed is that don't get this error:

Code: Select all

Premature end of script headers: zms, referer:
zmdc.pl status gives me:
'zmfilter.pl' running since 08/10/09 08:07:22, pid = 3717, valid

'zmaudit.pl -c' pending at 08/10/09 08:09:58

Any suggestions?
Today night I will try LiveCD to be sure that ZM can realy show me anything.

Might run dmesg and make sure the driver for your USB cam is not failing and also confirm that your usb cam is being properly detected and configured by the driver.
What do you get from:
zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v

zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v gives me:

As I stated before I can get view from the cam by using xawtv.
This is xawtv-3.95, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.23)

Sure but xawtv only maps the images directly to your screen. Can you save a snapshot through xawtv as this is more like what ZM does.

The "no overlay support" does not give me any warm fuzzies though. and just an opinion but when xawtv complains it's not a great sign.
