Blank black screen showing time and date. No errors that I can tell in the logs. Any help?

Very interesting...

I changed the monitors from NTSC to PAL - And I get a scrambled picture!!!! So what the heck? Did I forget to enable NTSC somewhere?

Not sure what you mean about the card type? Where do I do that? The messages log is included at the bottom of my first post.

I'm having that problem too but in his post he says the first channels work fine where mine don't. PAL gets me an image but NTSC does not.

I used the module options to fix that other problem but I'm still having the PAL/NTSC issue.

Any more ideas? I feel so close to having a working system here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you guys perhaps using a 2.6.21.5 kernel on your distribution? I was on my Slack12 installation and found that a bug was introduced in the bttv driver in this version. Check my post on the subject:

I had similar symtoms where PAL would show a fuzzy picture but nothing with NTSC. I managed to get it working once by unloading then reloading the bttv driver then running TVTime to init the driver. Once the machine was rebooted I couldn't get it to work again, and I had forgotten what I did before to get it working.

Try this test:

stop zm:
zmpkg.pl stop

unload the bttv driver:
rmmod bttv

reload the bttv driver:
modprobe bttv

run tvtime to init the driver (if you have it installed)
tvtime -d /dev/video0
(change /dev/video0 to whatever your device is)

exit tvtime

Then try starting zm and see if you get a picture in NTSC. If you get a picture then you are probably experiencing the kernel bug that I was.

If i remember correctly (this was configured 18 months ago) i had to use the device Format as Auto, and capture pallette as RGB24, anything else gave a similar display to what you describe.
If you use a different channel, do you get a blue screen ?.

Is your camera working correctly ?

Have you tried forcing a generic card, (when using modprobe)?.

Yup, it was the Kernel!!!! I downloaded and configured 2.6.23 (Gentoo mm-sources) and now I get a clear picture.
